Manchester had a couple of Carmichael bodied Firemasters. Other companies bodied some too like Cocker.

These had a centrally located underfloor engine, as they had a shortened single deck bus chassis, with a front mounted PTO driven pump behind the doors under the windscreen. Because of the long front overhang, designed for the original bus chassis front entrance, it was decided by some bodybuilders to move the officer seat to the center next to the driver ( no engine intrusion) and have a two door cab with the OIC and all of the rest of the crew using the single left side door. Others built these with a more conventional four door design, including the Glasgow pump escapes and the two Haydon Magirus turntable ladders for Darlington and Wolverhampton. Essex had two PESTs with the same unusual two door cab, but these had side facing rear seats to provide center aisle access inside the body, like other emergency tenders in those days.
