Australia was Toyota's very first export market, and the reason for the company starting to export there was that there was a market for the now World famous Land Cruiser 4X4 off-road utility pickup.
These combined outstanding off road performance with uniquely bullet-proof ruggedness, reliability, dependability and durability - which was not always true of some other brands' similar offerings.
Around the time this photo was taken, I was selling them in Kuwait - Toyota's second export market - and was a witness to their ability to handle unbelievably challenging conditions first hand. They were always the top choice for the oil companies, police and emergency services who had to spend their days out in the desert - when you not only had to be sure you could make it to your destination, but also be guaranteed that you would get back too!
