Fire Engines Photos

Thirty one years in service with volunteer fire companies is quite commonplace in Germany. These tend to respond to rather few actual emergency calls, and have a reputation for looking after their vehicles and equipment very well….Many members are often actually professional automotive mechanics or technicians, and everybody tends to take pride in ensuring their rigs are always in tiptop condition.

A huge number of these vehicles have been preserved by passionate collectors or for other use in rural or mountains areas.

With around 23,000 volunteer fire companies in Germany, there is a massive supply of old retired fire trucks - almost all in excellent condition! So its no surprise that a lot of survivors are still around in the hands of enthusiasts and collectors in Germany - even though lots of these ex volunteer fire trucks are exported to serve another decade or two with fire services abroad. Many examples of these forty or fifty year old German trucks can be seen on this site, not least in South American countries including Argentina.
