Similar to hose carts which are also used widely in France and Germany, these one man carts can each hold up to 200 metres of hose, depending on the diameter carried. As all fire services in the European Union use hermaphrodite hose couplings, they can be used for supply or attack operations interchangeably. The other country to make extensive use of hose carts is Japan, but these are rectangular and carry flaked rather than coiled hoses. Some are quite large with four wheels, and even include electric ride-on examples!

I wondered if those hose carts are originally mounted on this vehicle? They are Rosenbauer built and same as the pumpers of Basel FD

I guess it makes sense to use the same brand hose carts on everything, whether originally installed or an afterthought. Given the performance of this very impressive universal pumper, I would expect it to probably carry LHD - as well as the 65/70/75 (?) hose on the carts - to better handle the volume of water it can pump, but adding the hose carts also makes a lot of sense. If it has LHD, it is probably mainly stored on the roof, easily accessed by the built in ladder, which also gets the monitor operator up there…
