A first series Atego with a very nicely executed split tilt crew cab. It has been around for quite a while now, but still looks almost brand new.

Note the lightweight 12 (or maybe 15) meter extension ladder, which seems very similar to those used in France and Germany -and weigh only 65 to 75 KG. They seem a lot more manageable than the Lacon 13.5 meter ladders commonly used in the UK, which are in turn quite a bit better than the original Merryweather “gut busters”.

Rob as you mentioned France and Germany the Basel FD can and is sometimes helping out the bordering countries (France/Germany). They have hose adaptors ready for such cases.

You may be interested to learn that in the US there are NO standardized hose couplings, so some small fire departments have to carry loads of adapters in order to work with surrounding fire departments at serious incidents. In addition, the Stortz type of reversible coupling is unknown, except for five inch LDH, and even this almost always requires an adapter for the screw threads on a hydrant! To complicate things even more, different fire departments also use a wide range of different size hoses for attack and supply, including 1 inch, 1.5 inch, 1.75 inch, 2 inch, 2.5 inch, 3 inch, 3.5 inch, 4 inch, 5 inch and even occasionally 6 inch….

In Europe it is at least common for all fire services in one country to use standardized hose sizes and couplings.
