It seems a lot of PHPs were exported to Ireland after a short service life in England and Scotland. Many brigades found that they were not all that practical, when compared to the "old school" pump escape or water tender ladder. A 50 foot (15 metre) aerial platform needs to be very close to a not too tall building to be very useful, and does not offer the flexibility or accessibility of a ground ladder, while the vehicle itself is longer, heavier and slower than a pumper, and less less space for a water tank, equipment lockers and those very useful ancillary roof, hook, scaling or folding ladders.

I wonder did Ireland find them more suited to their operations or were they just cheap in comparison to standard machines ?

I believe that at least some of them were sold off at bargain prices, but details are understandably scarce!
