The new Stratford fire station taken in early 1964 left to right LAN 444 AEC Merryweather PE; HJD 203 Maudslay Merryweather P; AEC Merryweather ET NJD999 and Bedford Green Goddess NYR 696. This is in the period when WHFB moved away from Dennis because the brigade wanted diesels. (Recently discovered photo in Newham Archives and Local Studies Library)

all these appliances except NYR have separate photos on this site. Search by reg.

The one on the right looks an awful lot like another early Merryweather Diesel dual purpose pump. The Green Goddesses did not have a chrome framed rectangular radiator like this example, nor did it have separate black painted mudguards...I also wonder about the thirty three firemen in the photo. This seems too many to be the watch for a station with these four appliances. Were there additional units at this station, which are not in the photo? Or, are there two watches and/or staff personnel in the photo too?

ED: you are right well spotted. I cut off the green goddess when I scanned it. There was also a TL. Not all these appliances were based at Stratford. I am sure others were pulled in from Plaistow for the occasion.
