With a watch commander, a driver and sometimes an additional aide, these respond to all potentially serious alarms, such as structure fires, rescues, traffic accidents and hazmat incidents. According to the nature of the alarm, they are accompanied by (usually) two rescue pumpers, and either an aerial or one or more special units such as rescue, water rescue, crane, hazmat tender, etc.
The city has five large full time staffed fire stations and twenty three volunteer fire stations distributed throughout the city. These command vans are operated by both organizations, but of course not every volunteer station has one.
