Croydon Leyland FK7 limousine pump CBY1

taken from a Fire Service Preservation Group magazine in my collection.

This registration plate was later transferred to an AEC Merryweather turntable ladder by Croydon - in 1965 this became part of the London Fire Brigade fleet when Croydon borough was absorbed into the GLC as TL19.

I wonder if this enclosed bus style body allowed the inclusion of any water tank or first aid hose reel? Contemporary American Seagrave sedan pumpers, such as those purchased in large numbers by Detroit, did not. As a result, the city decided to fit hose reels and small water tanks on their ladder trucks. This was very unusual in the US at the time, but of course it was very common on both pump escapes and escape vans in the UK by the mid 1930s. So perhaps not a requirement on a dedicated urban pump appliance like this Leyland.
