Very tricky to get the weight distribution right with fully loaded with eight tons on each axle, especially when the front is carrying the relatively light crew cab. I suspect this unit probably actually operates at around 14 tons loaded, which would allow for a typical HLF water tank around 1200 to 2000 litres. 16 ton Ategos with 4x4 and full crew cab and HLF equipment can carry a 3000 litre tank, but need dual rear wheels to accommodate the weight on the rear axle. But the single tyres do offer better traction in mud and snow, so there are situations where a fire station’s response area makes the trade off of a smaller water tank a good solution.
Some readers will remember when the British Green Goddess EP specification was changed to 4X4. Because the rear axle was switched to single tires, the water tank was reduced from 400 to 300 IG as the rear axle load would otherwise have been too high.
