These civil defense units tend to emphasize firefighting capacity rather more than standard rescue pumpers, and are operated by volunteers fire companies alongside their own municipal specification pumpers. Unlike the old AFS Green Goddesses they are intended to be used on a daily basis by volunteers in responding to regular alarms, as well as being available for disaster response. Each state has a standard specification and equipment load.
