Good to see BSPP increasing their numbers of ladders with baskets. For many years the brigade had only a handful, which meant that a lot of operations had to be conducted using traditional turntable ladders. Although these have some advantages especially in close quarters, they do have limitations in some rescue and water tower applications. I am a big surprised that - as far as I know - Paris has not bought any articulated ladders, such as those used in places like Berlin and London nowadays, although the brigade has increased their numbers of aerial platforms.

Rob: Articulated ladders are too expensive, and I'm serious unfortunately. For Info the new 42m aerial platform was sponsored by the Galeries Lafayette Group. There were talks about acquiring a 60m HP as well! I dont know if the subject is still active?

It is a bit sad, I agree. I would have thought the 27/12 metre articulated ladder would have been ideal for tackling incidents in many typical Parisian apartment buildings. In some German cities, with similar older structures, they are specified with four wheel steering, which - combined with a low profile cab - makes them very versatile. But it does come down to cost, of course, as does everything else!
