These - and identical specification Austins - were widely used by fire brigades after the NFS reverted to local control. Some were in front line service until the mid sixties. Although the Barton front mounted centrifugal pump was rated at only 350 IGPM, it was of course entirely powerful enough for the great majority of incidents. In addition, the relatively large 130 IG water tank was quite a bit bigger than most contemporary pump and pump escape appliances, except for postwar water tenders.

There may have been Bedford NFS pump escapes too, but I have never seen or heard about any. Perhaps one of our contributors will know?
