Occasionally this is used when a major incident carries over a shift change, bringing new on duty crews to the scene and transporting the old watch back to their home stations so they can sign off duty. Tech 1 is Berlin’s largest fire station. At a recent count it housed no less than 54 vehicles, AB containers and trailers. It is staffed by highly specialized crews in addition to a normal station staff of firefighters and medical staff. The specialists include special rescue, special extinguishing media, hazmat, major fire operations, communications and command staffs.

Perhaps I should add that my no means all Berlin's specials are at this station, even though it is pretty enormous by most standards. Tech 2 has around thirty additional units, and many others are dispersed amongst the remaining 32 full time stations and with some of the additional 84 volunteer fire companies in the city.
