Based on a shortened double decker bus chassis. I was told a total of around 140 were built, including a very large number for London.

More accurately, 114. As all were dual purpose appliances with diesel engines, they were understandably mainly bought by cities and county boroughs rather than county brigades.

I should mention that the same chassis - with a longer wheelbase - was also used for a small number of turntable ladders and at least one London ET, which was in preservation and is depicted in several photos on this site. It attended the infamous fatal Worseley Hotel fire and was featured in the book "Red Watch" by Gordon Honeycombe.
