F261VAD GMC K30 Telehoist RT Gloucs

Gloucestershire had a number of the GMCs mostly as rapid intervention pumps but this one was a rescue tender.

Most were bodied by Telehoist who did very few fire engines. They were a local Cheltenham firm famed for tippers.

I never quite understood why these GMC chassis were bought; the four door versions were just as long and as wide as a full size British appliance - and because of their long bonnet design and low roof they afforded much less convenient crew accommodation as well as smaller equipment lockers too...As an alternative to a Land Rover rescue, this GMC was no doubt more spacious too, but no where near as capable off road, and probably no more useful in most circumstances than a long wheelbase Transit?

Ed: I have a list of about 60 that entered British service, public and private

I do wonder if any of the brigades which bought them liked them enough to replace them with more of the same type of chassis, or whether the experience of operating them caused them to look elsewhere?
