A rather typical ELW-1, which is used by the commanding officer of a Loeschzug, which typically consists of two rescue pumpers, a turntable ladder, tower ladder or aerial platform and usually also an ambulance, with a total of around 16 to 18 firefighters. Bigger ELW2 and 3 are deployed to second and/or multiple alarm incidents, and are much larger with more equipment and seating capacity on board.

Photo 32247 illustrates Karlsruhe’s Neoplan double deck ELW3, to give an idea of just how enormous these German command units can be!
