The Ecoliner 814 was a relatively heavy duty chassis for the LF 8 light pumper specification, largely used - as this example originally was - by some of the busier volunteer fire companies, who wanted a more durable vehicle than the lighter chassis which were otherwise often used. The fact that it was in volunteer service for 17 years, followed by another 13 with another speaks to its durability. Ecoliners were quite popular with fire services in their day in several countries, and turned up in various other roles as well as pumpers. A small number were deployed by UK fire services, but at the time Volvos were much more common.
