I remember seeing this Leyland at Middlesborough Parkside fire station around 1960, when it shared the appliance room with a Dennis F12 PE, an F7 DP, the unique F12 low profile water tender with its removable fibreglass roof cap, a prewar open cab two door Leyland TL and a postwar Leyland Comet pump. At that time the town did not have an ET, and I believe this unit was subsequently replaced by an ET a bit later on. The third officer told me "it is not something we get to use very often".

The Leyland Society's chassis list records XG 3910 as a FT2 dating from 3/36. They also have XG 2450 as an FK1 from 2/34 and XG 7767 as a TLM2A from 1941, for Middlesbrough County Borough.

Ed: thanks for that so XG3910 it is. Is the database for members only or is it on the internet?

Hi Ed.
The Leyland Society list I refer to can be found at the back of their book, 'Leyland Fire Engines 1930-1942'.
ISBN 0-9545216-1-7. I believe they subsequently brought out another book covering later models.

Good to know their old TL was actually bought in 1941. I was told only two of these were ever built.

One of the Middlesborough Leylands I mentioned in a comment above, XG2450, is on this site at picture 18386
