These carry extra communications equipment to assist command and control at major incidents. They supplement the different ELW rigs, which are comparable to US battalion chiefs’ buggies and incident command units. ELW 1 carry an officer and one or two aides, and are usually a VW Transporter or small MB Sprinter. The 2 and 3 are larger - including Karlsruhe’s giant Neoplan, which is built around a double decker bus! At least one city operates a similar Transporter to carry their command drone, while some others have added one to their ELW u units.
