picture 43806 depicts this unit’s Braidwood body stable mate, acquired the previous year. I can only imagine that there was some competition to see who would ride the newer enclosed pump, rather than the open one, especially if it was cold and/or raining!
I was always amazed at how late open Braidwood bodied appliances were being bought in the UK compared to other countries, where enclosed crew cabs were commonplace by the early 1930s, but I imagine it probably had a lot to do with the lower cost of construction.
In the US open cabs persisted well into the 1960s, but mainly of course only in places like California and Texas where the climate favored this design.
