ooops, sorry Pete, the Tatra Mountains are in Poland and SLOVAKIA and not the Czech Republic. Sorry to be picky.

David, yes your perfectly correct in what you say.The Tatra Mountain range
goes from Poland and into what was the old Czechoslavakia.Slovakia is now
a country in its own rights, as is the Czech Republic and the Tatras as they
are known do not actually pass into the what is now the Czech Republic.

Tatra fire trucks, like this big tanker, were and still are very popular in the Czech Republic, and did pass on to several other central European countries in the Comecon era. Many are still in daily use, and they seem to be very well regarded, as are the Skoda pumpers from the same era. Both brands belie the idea that all vehicles built during the Communist era were junk - these most certainly were not!
