Both 4X4 and 6X6 versions were built from 1983 to 1987, primarily for the Swiss army. Saurer was a manufacturer of trucks, buses, fire appliances, military tanks, cannons, armored cars and 4X4 vehicles, including a number of very interesting special vehicles such as the unique post buses for the Swiss post office. They also supplied engines and chassis to other specialist firms, including DAB in Denmark for articulated buses.
