This is one of Paris' famous - and almost unique - light pump and basic life support ambulance combination trucks. At one time around 112 of these operated out of the brigade's 74 stations, along with regular ambulances, pumps, aerials and specials.
In recent years the volume of EMS calls has increased to the point where the availability of these handy little units to fill their role as first due at fires was being affected. So the BSPP has begun to move gradually to replace these with separate light pumpers and ambulances - with dedicated crews.
This should restore the ability of the service to cope with both EMS and fire/rescue workloads.
