The capital city of Belgium with two million citizens operates fourteen front line aerial trucks, as well as several additional units in reserve. One task which these carry out fairly often is for assist EMS units with bringing bedridden patients out of upper floor bedrooms in older apartment buildings without lifts, where maneuvering a stretcher down steep, winding or spiral stairs is not feasible.
