During the International Airshow, photographic restrictions were lifted at the normally secretive MoD Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. This photo of a 1985 Range Rover / Gloster Saro rapid intervention vehicle B333 MPF was taken on O’Gorman Avenue near North Gate while the crew were getting lunch. Photo taken September 1986

I guess the extra crew member on the front bumper had the job of adding a bit of needed extra weight on the front axle, as these tandem axle conversions tended to be very light on the front end due to the weird weight distribution - with very “interesting” steering as a result!

Officially known in UK military service as 'Truck Airfield Crash Rescue, Mk.2', and officially abbreviated 'TACR-2'.

I actually drove this vehicle while on service with RAE fire service......it differed from the RAF version as the hoselines were dutch rolled in the back not in side lockers

Michael: It seems that many people who drove these experienced some rather alarming handling characteristics, because of the wheelbase, narrow track, weight distribution and high center of gravity. I have to wonder how you remember your experience at the steering wheel?
