Pirna has a population of just under 40,000 and is protected by a volunteer fire service with over 200 unpaid operational personnel based at seven fire stations. In addition to this TTL, they operate nine pumps, three hazmat units, three command vehicles, a personnel carrier, six trailers, three boats and a pod carrier with three pods. In common with most volunteers in Germany, they do not operate the ambulance service in their town. Last year they turned out 561 times, including 83 fires.
