Check out picture 19298 on this site for a little of the history of these ex US army GMC 2.5 ton 6X6 fire trucks, hundreds of which found their way into service with French firefighters in the years after WWII. The majority were used as brush pumper-tankers, with rather minimal modifications. Usually just a 3, 000 liter water tank, a small motorized 500 LPM fixed pump, 23mm hose reel and an open crew bench. But a few were extensively modified like this example with a crew cab and custom bodywork. This one has been upgraded to fill a broader role including structure fires - hence the ladder, hose carts and side lockers, as well as the fancy modified mudguards and an enclosed crew cab too!
