Although tandem axle prime movers have been commonplace in many places for decades, they are a relatively recent introduction to quite a few French fire services, and many still focus exclusively on two axle chassis - which are of course more compact.

Some Austrian, Swiss and German brigades actually have 8X4 chassis, to carry extra heavy containers, and similar ones also crop up in Japan...
