Austin 60ft TL GXN205 from Station C2 Bridgwater Somerset Fire Brigade taking part in a drill at the animal feed factory in the town's docks in the late 1950's. See recent post by Bristol Bob of the same appliance awaiting disposal in 1970.

This photo nicely illustrates the NFS 60 foot TTL in operation. The operator had to position it correctly, because it was not a design which permitted 360 degree rotation. The ladder heel was far enough behind the fulcrum that on maximum elevation it was actually lower than the vehicle's chassis frame, as can be seen so clearly here. So it had something like a 270 degree radius of action - which could of course be overcome by clever positioning. As they say in Yorkshire, "owt is better'n nowt".
