The VSAV ("Vehicle to save and assist victims")is what we would call a basic life support ambulance, staffed by three firefighter-EMTs in the case of Paris. There are over a hundred in service, and I believe all are these front wheel drive Renault vans. Using the same van as a basis, the BSPP also operate a much smaller number of ALS ambulances (which they have decided to call "re-animation ambulances" in a rather optimistic style) - and of course their famous fleet of more than another hundred combination light fire pump and basic ambulance Premier Secours or "first aid" trucks.
In Paris the SAMU organization also has a large fleet of what amount to ALS ambulances, working closely together with the BSPP.
Because many ambulances make up to a dozen runs a day the BSPP is evaluating different ways of reducing firefighter-EMT burnout.
One possible solution is to replace some of the PS pumper and ambulance combinations with ambulances, while replacing others with a dedicated pumper without the medical compartment.
In addition, there are experiments with two person ambulance crewing, which is after all pretty much the standard in most other countries.
