This city of 230,000 residents has a typical fire service structure for a German town of this size. The single - very large - full time fire station houses most of the special purpose units and command vehicles, along with regular pump and aerial equipment, with 20 full time operational staff on site 24/7. They are supported by 18 volunteer fire companies, with stations distributed around the city to insure rapid response to all areas. These include specialist command, hazmat and rescue companies as well as companies with only pumper, tanker and/or aerial trucks.
