This Magirus demonstrator is a standard German TLF 4000 litre water tender. Although these are usually 4X4 they are not primarily designed as brush trucks, and are more often dispatched to vehicle fires, industrial fires and other fires where hydrant access and/or capacity may be a problem. This unit does not appear to have a roof monitor, but these are very common on TLF 4000 water tenders.
The TLF 4000 is a standard German water tender specification, and numerous examples are to be found everywhere. It replaced the earlier TLF 5000, and is designed to carry more equipment than its predecessor, although it has a slightly smaller tank. The reduction in tank size is related to the increasing use of CAFS among German fire services in the past twenty years. This change has very often resulted in a reduction in water consumption at fires of between 50% and 75%, as CAFS tends to significantly reduce the time (and therefore the volume of water) needed.
The TLF 4000 has a crew of only two, so it almost always responds along with one or more pumps with a full crew of six. In many volunteer fire companies, a personnel carrier with another four to eight crew members also responds in addition to the pump(s).
