This illustrates why so few Econics are used as rescue pumpers. The concept of this chassis was to achieve a low cab height by locating the engine further back on the chassis, which was ideal for aerials as well as for the original purpose of this design intended for garbage trucks. But this meant that the addition of a crew cab made the cab longer than normal, and for the same amount of body space a longer wheelbase was necessary. The solution? Add four wheel steering to restore maneuverability!

Not surprising that very few Econics have been built as rescue pumps, because it takes a lot of expensive engineering to offset the design's disadvantages - especially considering that these have the full height cab rather than the low profile cab anyway!
