LF8TS category pumps carried an 800 LPM portable pump in the rear compartment, in addition to having their front mounted 800 LPM pump. They were mainly used by Germany's 20,000 volunteer fire companies, and were not fitted with on board water tanks. The design - with its easily accessible PP - was intended to facilitate rapid deployment to a hydrant or open water source so that the crew could "get the wet stuff on the red stuff" quickly.
The SOP was of course to use the fixed pump wherever possible, but to bring the PP into use as well if necessary, or as an alternative if the truck could not get near enough to an open or static water source. With a nine person crew, the LF8 brought enough personnel to an incident to make full use of both pumps if necessary.
