The Berliet GL range with its normal control cab chassis and rather long bonnet was introduced in 1950 and continued in production (with a modified snout) until 1977. It came in a wide range of weight capacities with engines from 120 all the way up to 280 BHP. It was in widespread use as a fire appliance chassis, for pumps, water tenders, turntable ladders and tankers, but was gradually eclipsed by the forward control Berliet GAK as well as Citroen and Saviem forward control alternatives.
