4X4 water tender with 1600 LPM pump, 2400 litre tank and six seat crew cab. This was a standard DIN specification truck and was usually the first due unit, as it had a large water tank and a first aid hose reel system. The structure fire first attendance was completed by a command van, a TTL and by the LF16 pump, which had a nine seat cab and a more comprehensive collection of hoses and ladders. This chassis competed directly with Magirus, and was replaced in 1963 by a more modern short bonnet style, which was increasingly popular until forward control fire trucks became more commonplace in the late 1960s.
4X4 chassis were - and still are - very common in pretty much all applications except for aerials among German fire services, except in large towns and cities, even where there is no likelihood they will be used off road
