Enclosed fire appliances were introduced in France shortly after WWI. This was about twenty years before they became the norm in the UK, and forty years before the USA! The first British enclosed appliances appeared in 1931, supplied to Darlington and Edinburgh, and a 1935 Mack was the first in the USA. This generation of pump had an enormous crew cab, with the Paris model accommodating no less than 12 firefighters! It was not equipped with a water tank or first aid hose reel - as it always responded with a PS which had a tank.
