With half a million citizens, this is Bavaria’s second largest city.

The full time fire service has five stations, backed up by eight volunteer stations in the inner city and ten additional ones in the outer suburbs.

This combination of paid and volunteer firefighting organizations combined into a unified force with integrated command and control is typical of large German towns and cities.
