One of two identical series III HLF trucks placed in service in 2019. Although the full time paid fire station has only two pumps, each of the fourteen additional volunteer fire stations has an average of two more. These include rescue pumps, pump water tenders, pump appliances and civil defense pumpers, and many also have retired appliances for their Youth Fire Brigade - which can be pressed into service as reserve units if necessary. These two are staffed by a six person full time crew, and respond together to structure fire incidents, along with either a 23/12 TTL or a 32 meter ALP, along with a command van, with a total of 18 firefighters.
The volunteers' units are mostly equipped with nine seat cabs, but also include six seat water tenders and two seat tankers at strategic stations. The dense network of volunteer stations is designed to ensure a ten minute maximum response time to any location in the city, including call processing, turnout and travel to the reported incident.
An average volunteer station has around fifty operational personnel, with between eight and twelve members responding on the first alarm within the required timeframe.
Volunteers respond to around 15% of all calls, and also relocate to the full time fire station to provide standby coverage when the duty watch are tied up at an incident, thereby also providing instant response for an extensive fleet of special purpose appliances based at the station in addition to their own pumpers, aerials and rescue trucks.
