This LF8 was built on the Iveco 60 light truck chassis, which was designed and built by Italy’s OM truck company. It became a FIAT product after FIAT bought OM and then was badged Iveco until Magirus joined Iveco - when a small number were sold as fire appliances wearing the Magirus badge.
Built in Italy, these were not very popular with German fire services and relatively few were sold. Because this example has a front mounted pump, it is most probably a LF8TS with a portable 800 LPM pump in the rear compartment too. The six ton Magirus also appeared here and there in Belgium and the Netherlands, where Magirus appliances were already quite popular - with one at the Amsterdam motor show in 1978. This had a rear mounted 1000 LPM pump, a 1000 litre tank and a six seat cab.
