18 meter TTLs were very common in service with small town German volunteer fire companies, such as Grunstadt with 13,200 citizens. Many did not have structures which justified a full sized 30 metre TTL - and these were a lot less expensive and also more maneuverable. By now the town has of course replaced this old girl twice, most recently with a Mercedes Atego Metz 23/12 DLK, one of nine fire and rescue trucks at one of its two fire stations.
In its day, the inexpensive 8 ton Opel chassis was very popular with German volunteer fire companies, and the LF8 pump in the background looks a lot like another one. The cab is of course shared with the contemporary Bedford, as both these brands were General Motors subsidiaries.
