USAR resouces World Rescue Challenge 2012You can see on the extreme right Warehouse K, Royal Docks. This was a bonded tobacco warehouse and the scene of a major fire in 1923. Access to fight the fire was difficult as the annex could only be entered from the main Warehouse K. The building was not properly divided by walls into separate fire compartments, so the fire spread rapidly up to roof level. The CFO deployed 4 pumps from West Ham, and had to ask for assistance under the mutual aid arrangements from Dyer at the London Fire Brigade, and they sent 6 pumps. In addition the Port of London Authority (PLA) sent fire tugs with high capacity pumps to assist. However the warehouse is not located near the dock edge and the access to the north side was hampered by railway lines and there were no hydrants on that side. Two firemen went off sick due to nicotine poisoning!!
