The 700 series was introduced in 1947, and was a revolutionary design at the time, being the first to have a forward control cab with the engine set back between the rear seats. This configuration was rapidly copied by numerous other American fire truck builders, and became by far the most common layout for all types of pumpers, ladders and rescues until the late seventies, when cabs with the engine mounted up front between the front seats started to become the norm.
