PAN4E Commer KC40 WalkThru/Wadham Stringer CIU Wem

A 1967 Commer KC40 chassis shortly to be replaced by a Ford D0810/Hawson. The walk thru van, which had no bulk head between cab and body (hence the name) was popular with a number of brigades. Oxfordfordshire had rescue tenders, and Rutland a foam carrier in burgundy/maroon colour scheme.
Fit out on PAN 4E was by Wadham Stringer, who bodied a number of special appliances in the era. This appliance was originally a control unit (CU) before conversion in 1975 to Chemical Incident Unit (CIU). There three similar appliances in PAN series

Ford D series/Hawson to the rear.

These were also quite popular in Belgium and the Netherlands as command vans, BA tenders, towing tenders for trailer pumps, rescue tenders including dive team units towing boat trailers, foam tenders and as general utility vans...
