Magirus pioneered steel turntable ladders in 1933, after which wooden designs like this example rapidly disappeared!
As they were much lighter, steel ladders could be built up to 30 and - eventually - as much as 45 meters, while wooden ladders over 25 meters were not very practical.
Other aspects of this 1924 design were quite advanced, with a full windscreen and semi enclosed driver's seating. But solid tyres were still the norm in Europe, and no-one had heard of front wheel brakes!
