Following withdrawal from service, the 1986 Hino FT175 was acquired by the Mid South Canterbury Rural Fire authority. Following re-engineering work it was able to be placed back into service and is now with the Lake Clearwater Rural Fire Force. It was photographed in January 2017 undergoing testing.

Hino trucks are built by a division of Toyota, and have a similarly impressive track record for reliability and durability. They are very popular in numerous export markets including both Australia and New Zealand. This example is an international co-operation, as most have local bodywork and many feature American pumps. The layout most often includes a midships pump, and flaked hoses carried in rear lockers, which is a variant on the almost universal American practice of having preconnected hoses in a bed with rear access.
