Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Volvo FLL/Emergency One WRL HX11GUF based at Rushmoor and attending a garage fire in Farnborough, 20th February 2017.
A British appliance with CAFS. I had heard that the UK environmental regulations inhibited these systems, which are now increasingly commonplace in many other countries. Are they being adopted, or has the British fire service been forced to do an about-turn?
I checked with Hampshire and have learned that they currently operate 23 WRLs with CAFS and intend to acquire eight more soon. This means that more than half of their 51 stations will have a CAFS unit.
The idea that CAFS is environmentally unacceptable in the UK seems to be dead. Given the enormous benefits of CAFS systems, this seems to be only good news.
Hampshire also operate six units with the Swedish Cobra Cold Cutter system, an ultra high pressure lance system working at 200 + AT, and an advance on the existing Fognail which has been in use in Northern Europe for a while now.
