Finland is one of the last countries to favor front mounted pumps. These too are now becoming a rarity on the newer deliveries. I think this may be because they make it difficult to take full advantage of modern tilt cabs, which are now universal.

Cab desing is not the main reason for not having front pump anymore, or I think its not. In Finland some EU regulation about pedestrian safety etc. (also truck manufactures didnt like making hole troung all radiators and other cores) made front pump mounting "illegal" about 15 years ago, since then all new ones been rear or center mounted.

If I was hit by a 14 ton fire truck while crossing the road, I am not sure I would really feel better because it did not have a front-mounted pump.

Here in the US we still have front-mounted pumps on a few fire trucks, mainly tankers. In addition, most of our engines with mid-mounted pumps continue to have supply and/or attack hoses, suction inlets, water deliveries, winches, hosereels, water guns and/or other "hard objects" mounted on or in front of the bumper. I think the philosophy here is that with lights and sirens announcing the fire trucks' presence, it is incumbent on pedestrians to keep out of the way, just like drivers of other vehicles.

our town newest truck, 2 years old scania has rear mounted pump but winch in front so... its just regulations, not so much meaning IRL.
