Combined age of 203 years!

Here we see the 1913 Merryweather with the 1916 Dennis 'N' Type at the Beamish Open Air Museum. The Merryweather served with the Bass Brewery Fire Brigade and the Dennis with the Aberdeen Fire Brigade. They came together for a WW1 event held over the weekend of April 8th. 2016

Always thought a fire station would be a great addition to Beamish!

The Merryweather seems to be equipped only to respond to daytime alarms. Rather odd?

What a lovely picture Barry, thanks for sharing it with us.Rob, it just looks like the front lamps have been removed for some reason, but I'm sure they'll be put back on?

Rob, when the Merryweather was restored 50 years ago it was restored with oil lamps rather than CAV electric lighting. At the moment the Merryweather is in a transitional state ( neither! ) before it returns to a full CAV system. The searchlight which is also not present in this picture was always acetylene.

Thanks, Barry. I guess it doesn't matter too much, as it will hardly be responding to any alarms these days! Both beautiful restoration/preservation examples.

The Dennis N type was actually a Glasgow appliance I believe ?

Hi Rick, quite correct. Ex Glasgow (G 810 registration). In those days, lamps were an add on when needed.
